Rent A BVI Catamaran Charter For Your Next Vacation

By Carl Cooper

The British Virgin Islands is among the most beautiful destinations in the world. You could simply fly in and enjoy the crystal blue waters from the beach. But to really experience the surrounding ocean, you should do it from a vessel. Luckily, there are many BVI catamaran charter companies available to help you accomplish this.

A catamaran is quite different from a normal sailboat or yacht. Some are equipped with sails only, while others are equipped with both an engine and sails. They are constructed using two hulls, with something connecting them in the middle. On smaller ones, the connector might be a simple, strong webbing, while on others it is a large metal structure that may be big enough to haul cargo.

There are really large catamarans that can haul cargo, but most of the ones you will find in the British Virgin Islands are smaller. This is great for you, because it means that they can get closer to the more than 60 cays and islands that comprise the BVI. If you are in a boat that is too large, then they may not be able to make it close to these islands or between them. Catamarans would be able to go just about anywhere, but still have plenty of room for your family.

Because of the hulls, the boat is lower to the water, which means you can lean over the hull and take a look at the water, which is beautiful and clear. In shallower waters, you can see down to the sand at the coral or seaweed. Being lower to the ground allows you to easily use the ladder or cockpit extension to get into the water for a relaxing swim or some snorkeling. Your return to the boat is also easier this way.

Some charter services will take you out just for a day or for a sunset type cruise. Others will rent to you for a week or more, for people who really want ot relax out on the open water for days at a time. Some companies will offer a discount if you book in advance for more than a week. If you book during off peak times, you may also be able to get a deal, so do not hesitate to ask if there is a lower price.

When you make your reservation, you can decide to be truly pampered and reserve a crew of a captain to do the sailing and navigating, and a hostess to attend to all your other needs.

You can also opt to go with a bareboat sailing. This means that you do not have any staff on board, so that means you will have to act as skipper and get the boat to where you want to go, and you will also have to make and serve your own food and drinks.

The smallest boats may only have a kitchen and common area with table and seating. Others have cabins below deck with beds that can sleep either one or two people each. There is also a bathroom on board, and with the larger models, there may even be more than one bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet.
