It is widely asserted that longboards are a sister to skateboards. The assertion is derived from the appearance of these two gadgets. Longboards usually have four main parts that include the deck, truck wheels and the bearings. The difference comes in as far as the length and design is concerned. Longboards are designed for cruising and not performing tricks. Therefore, it is vital for an owner to care for his or her longboard so as to extend its longevity.

The deck is the most essential part of a longboard. This can be attributed to the fact that it usually wears out faster than all other components. The material used in making it is mostly a ply wood. Other materials such as fiberglass can also be applied in order to contribute to rigidity. If exposed to water, the ply in the wood may crack. It is essential to dry off when exposed to water and keep in a cool dry place.

The next maintenance parts are the bearings. These are usually circular in appearance and are located inside the wheels o aide in rotation. The fact that the wheels make numerous rotations every now and then makes the bearings generate plenty of heat. The heat occasionally makes them to wear out. The maintenance tip is to replace them with new ones. Lubrication using grease can also prevent wearing and tearing. Bearings are available in most retail shops in Escondido CA.

The fact that longboards trucks are manufactured to resist heavy punishment does not mean that they are exempted from maintenance. Trucks are metal components whose purpose is to anchor wheels of the board to the deck. Trucks are mostly made of bushings and rubber cushions. The continuous flexing causes the tendency of wear. They are also affordable since most are found in skate shops.

The other components are the wheels. Wheels are quite significant given that they make contact with the ground. Worn out wheels may lead to instability and in the long run, accidents are bound to occur. Maintaining he wheels involve giving them a spin once in a while. This can be done clockwise or the other way round. If errors are noticed, arrangement must be made to replace as soon as possible.

It is normally recommended that the long boards be regularly examined. Amateurs who purchased it for the first time can consul experienced skaters for tips of checking out an error. Before and after boarding, the board has to be examined also. This also helps to prevent any looming dangers caused by loosened parts.

In as much as modern longboards have been made to be tough and can withstand any weather condition, frequent maintenance is always a must. People who get the most out of their boards usually adhere to the above mentioned techniques of maintenance. Furthermore, safety is of paramount importance as far as any sporting equipment is concerned.
