In Louisiana, gator ranks as the biggest reptile in US. The gator population is known to be approximately over 1.4 million. A lot of of these reptiles are found in commercial farms. Most of gator hunting is done every September. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in coastal town sets the date. A well guided gator hunting in Louisiana makes every interested hunter in the habitat to have a successful hunting experience.

Licensed hunters are the only people allowed to go hunting in the habitats. They are supposed to possess or lease a land classified as wetland habitat. The owners are issued with harvest tags by the Department of Wildlife. The qualified hunters are given guides and accompanied throughout their trips.

The non-residents must purchase sport hunter licenses and a guide whose tags are valid must escort the hunters. The guides in Louisiana have the best access to the best habitats. They are able to take you to the preeminent areas for finding the best catch. Guides mostly help you to get the trophy reptile, which is known to be 8 feet long. Any harvested reptile must have harvest tags. The cost of most trips does not include any taxidermy or processing of animals although it is an optional.

The trips are offered with or without overnight lodging. Some guiding companies take hunters on day hunts while others may take them for night hunts. The weekend hunts sometimes may include overnight camping like in Yellow Bayou camp. However, there are other lodging services at every hotel in the city. Before the hunting trip starts, the company does an orientation. The best time to go for this function is during sunrise or at sunset only. The daily quota amounts to the number of tags that the hunters possess. There is no limit of size of the prey you are supposed to catch. Hook and line, bow and arrow along with firearms are some of different ways used in hunting . Nevertheless; short gun should not be used.

Non-residents can hunt the animal as a Sport hunter but the guide must accompany them. The guide must have valid tags. The non-resident can be issued with a tag in case he has leased a land and has done the proper presentation of their information in their documents.

The cost of a Sport Hunter License for non-residents is less costly than that of residents. Louisiana city is one of the leading gator farmers in the US recording a looming production of over 30,000 wild reptiles annually. Farm raised gators amount to over 280,000 in a year.

Gators hides can be sold to licensed fur dealers or buyers at the market. Sometimes, the reptiles are sold in whole to the fur dealers at processing industries in LA where they manufacture various products. The other buyers can plan to get meat, skin, and the other parts of the trophy from the sellers in the habitats. The Gator Management Program has recorded an alarming rise in production of gators at the swamps and marshes of coastal region of the city.
