If Looking For Motorhomes For Sale Ontario Buyers Will Find These Tips Helpful

By April Briggs

Avid campers and outdoor enthusiasts who like to travel appreciate the convenience and comfort a motorhome or RV can provide them on their adventures. Fairly expensive, even second-hand, it's very important to know that the recreational vehicle one purchases will stand up to several years of use and not constantly require repairs. By keeping these points in mind when buying motorhomes for sale Ontario consumers in Hamilton have a better chance of making a wise purchase.

It's a good idea to first take any second-hand camper into a licensed mechanic for a thorough evaluation which makes note of the following. First the empty motorhome should be weighed to ensure that it matches the curb weight stated on its registration. All tanks should be filled with water to test for leaks, tire treads should be inspected for even wear, engine should not be abnormally hot after use, there should be no leaks from the engine or steering system and a relatively rust-free chassis.

These exterior features should also be assessed either by the mechanic or buyers who are more vehicle-savvy. Carefully checking the plating for any indication of previous repair work is essential to safety, as this can mean the vehicle's integrity has been compromised and it may be less structurally-sound. The roof should be fairly clean, and all vents, doors, and windows should be able to open and close completely.

Besides the exterior, it's also necessary to thoroughly evaluate the motorhome's interior. There should not be a stale aroma inside, or evidence of mold-growth on any surface, leakage from walls, or malfunctioning or broken hinges, handles, locks, doors, or cabinets. All walls and floors must be hard and dry to the touch.

Buyers should also know what to look for in specific rooms, namely the bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom should have sound joints around each fixture, and the shower must have intact caulking and no cracks of any sort. Swelling on the floor usually means there is a leak, which is of particular concern. All drains should clear fully, the toilet must flush completely, and pipes must not leak.

Similarly, with the kitchen, all taps and drains must function correctly, with no leaky pipes. The fridge and stove need to be operational and clean, and the once again, the floor should not show any signs of swelling or buckling associated with leaks. Replacing a floor in a motorhome is a very extensive repair that takes a lot of work and money to complete.

Other items of concern to a prospective motorhome buyer should include the condition of components such as the water pump, boiler, generator, air conditioner, solar panels, awnings, wastewater disposal system, and electrical workings. Consulting an expert is the best choice if the buyer doesn't trust his or her own judgment in these matters.

Buyers also need to take it for a test drive. In order to get an accurate picture of the camper's performance on the road, this should be done with a full load for no less than two hours. The driver must listen and watch carefully to detect anything which doesn't sound or feel right, so it can be investigated further.
