Door-To-Door Transportation And Orlando Airport Shuttle

By Jason Davis

When planning a multi-day stay away from home, it can often be easy to rent a car. Renting cars can also be extremely expensive depending on location, time of year and other considerations. Individuals who do not own cars often do not have insurance and must pay outrageous prices for insurance waivers, taxes and fees. While those who can use public transportation, Orlando airport shuttle services, taxis, town cars, or services like Uber and Lyft can often save money.

If desiring to hire a town car, it is often advised travelers due so in advance. Individuals can hire a driver and town car for a day, an hour, an evening and sometimes even longer. As such, for those on an unlimited budget, a ride can be waiting outside the door at any given time. Visitors opting to use free or low-cost shuttle service may have to travel with others, or make reservations on a first come, first serve basis.

Mears and other local taxi services are always available outside airport terminals. While this is the case, it can often be far less expensive to use a designated or door-to-door shuttle service. For, while taxis operated on a metered system, shuttles are often a flat fee for one or more passengers. At the same time, for travelers in a hurry, taxis can often provide a more direct service as some shuttles tend to stop at different locations in route.

With companies like Uber and Lyft now available, others may want to opt for these services. While there have been issues with drivers and passengers, nothing has happened to driver or passengers of these two companies that has not happened to others driving or riding in taxis. Travelers need keep in mind that quoted rates often do not include rush hours or other periods in which surge pricing goes into effect.

Individuals looking for on-going transportation during a visit may want to opt for public transportation. Buses, trains and light rail operate in many areas and can save travelers a lot of money. Some cities like Boston and San Francisco offer specialized discount 3-7 day bus passes to visitors. To find out if Orlando, Florida has a discount transit program, stop by the local visitor centers for information on fares, maps and schedules.

When needing a car while in the city, individuals may want to look into car sharing. Zip Car is a membership drive share that allows members to rent cars on an hourly or daily basis. Once a member, the member simply reserves a car, waves a membership card, then obtains the keys and gas card to use while using the vehicle. As the company provides gas and insurance, the costs are far less than traditional rent-a-cars.

Unlike MCO which operates on a reservation and drop-off basis with multiple passengers and locations, SuperShuttle provides direct door-to-door service. MCO on the other hand runs about half the cost of SuperShuttle since it only serves the airport and local lodging facilities. While shuttle service is definitely more limited, SuperShuttle and MCO do generally serve local youth hostels along with well known hotels, motels and resorts.

One of the best options is to stay at hotels which offer either free or low cost shuttle service. When booking a vacation package through Disney, shuttle service is free of charge in Florida. Travelers can save a great deal of money by flying and taking a free shuttle to Disney World and other hotels instead of paying the high daily parking rates many hotels and resorts charge in the area.
