Vegas Grand Canyon National Park Valentine's (Feb. 14) Coach Tours

By Melissa Manchester

Going to Las Vegas for the Valentine's holiday? Then consider taking a Grand Canyon bus tour. These trips leave once a day in the a.m. and go to the West Rim and the South Rim. But book early as seats sell out quickly.

Buses leave Vegas about 7 am, and you'll need to allot an entire day for the tour. You'll see plenty of exciting things on the way to the Canyon, including the Hoover Dam, and your bus will probably even make a short stop there so you can take photos. If the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead grab your interest, you may want to book another day long tour on another day to explore them more fully.

As an aside, if you want to spend more time at Hoover Dam, you need to book a separate tour on a different day as there's only enough time to do a photo-stop en route to the Canyon.

Vegas is closest to the West Rim. It will take approximately 2.5 hours to ride there on a bus. The top of the West Rim has a lot of walking trails and lookout points, plus it is home to the Skywalk. The Skywalk is an attraction you don't want to miss because you'll get a fantastic view from the massive glass bridge that hangs suspended 4000 feet above the Canyon floor.

You can choose from different touring packages. The basic tour will take you to the park, and from there you can choose exactly how you want to explore it. There are also options where you could add on a helicopter ride to the bottom of the Canyon, or even take a boat ride on the Colorado River.

There's a basic, no-frills West Rim tour that basically gets you to the Park so you can explore it at your own pace. Then there are the more deluxe packages that come with a helicopter ride to the bottom or a boat trip down the Colorado River.

South Rim

South Rim tours come with a lot of options too. You can stick with a bus tour and view the rim from the ground or you can add on a helicopter tour and see the wilderness area from the air. A helicopter tour gives you thirty minutes of air time to view the scenery from the South Rim to the North Rim.

Like the basic West Rim bus tour, there's a no-frills South Rim bus tour. You also have the option to include a 30-minute helicopter ride that goes from the South Rim to the North Rim and back via the Dragoon Corridor, which is the widest and deepest section of the Canyon.

The tour price is the complete price for your tour package, so you don't have to worry about paying extra for taxes or park fees. Also, your tour includes complementary transportation to and from your hotel, a light breakfast, and a meal at lunchtime. The tour even has a guide, that way you'll understand what you're seeing along the way.

Bus tours are perfect if you're on a budget. They're the most affordable way to visit the Grand Canyon National park, and even if you want to spend a little extra, there are options like the helicopter tours, or the Skywalk VIP experience at the West Rim.

These tours are great for budget travelers and are the cheapest way to get to and from the National Park. However, to ensure you get the lowest price possible, I urge you to book your tour in advance and online. Try to avoid booking 24 hours prior to departure as there won't be any seats or the price will be higher.

Conclusion

A bus tour is a unique and fun way to celebrate Valentine's Day. The Canyon is a beautiful place filled with mystery, adventure, and even romance. Don't forget to add on exciting adventures like a helicopter flight from the South Rim to the North Rim and back, or a helicopter descent to the Canyon floor at the West Rim. It's hard to make a wrong choice since all the tour option are fun, just make sure your tour doesn't sell out first, be sure to book it online with your credit card to lock in your seats and get the lowest price. Vegas is filled with a lot of beautiful sights, but none of them are quite as grand as those you'll see on your tour of the Canyon!
