A Look At Attractions In Fort Myers Florida

People from around the world travel to Florida for fun in the sun. It is part of the hub area for vacationers and those escaping the snow and cold during the winter months. Fort Myers Florida is an important part of the draw that brings people to the area by offering multiple activities for every age and taste.

The beach area is one of the main draws of this city, especially during spring break. You will find multiple water sports available including jet skiing, wave runners and para-sailing. There are also fishing charters available to hire for half and full day tours. You can also take advantage of multiple dining locations on the beach that face the ocean and provide beautiful scenic views.

One of the larger attractions in this area is Edison Ford Winter Estates. This twenty acre estate has daily tours featuring the grounds and all buildings on the property. The winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford are open for public tours and offer gift shopping sites for guests. The tours include the gardens, famous for the large number of unique plants, flowers and historical trees. You can visit the orchid program and propagation green house located on the property.

If you are a nature buff there are numerous opportunities for jaunts into the wild. Six Mile Cypress Slough offers tours by boat and walking that helps you find wild life and birds. The staff helps guests find photo opportunities of egrets, herons, wild pigs and alligators without disturbing the animals. A walking tour has been created with a boardwalk that leads to a blind where photographers can spend time waiting for animals to approach close enough for picture taking.

You will find a rain forest aviary at the Shell factory that is open to the public. It contains hundreds of birds from countries located in the southern hemisphere. The factory tour also features a butterfly garden that gives visitors an opportunity to sit is an area and be surrounded by these lovely creatures. While there you can visit the petting zoo with your children and an animal museum containing the largest collection in the country of exotic animals.

In the center of town you can find the Art Center. Located in a neoclassical setting with pillars made of coral and limestone you find vibrant art exhibitions and art walks on a regular basis. The city similarly provides ninety minute guided tours of historic sites, reported haunted sites and the major art pieces located throughout the city on a weekly basis.

Safaris into the Everglades on an air boat or river boat are available daily. These day long trips require the guest to bring their own refreshments for the day but the crew will keep you supplied with insect repellent to keep you comfortable. Gambling cruises are also available with reservations. Meals are supplied on these five and one half hour tours and entertainment can be found on the third floor.
