Exciting Whale Watching Tours In Alaska

By Lelia Hall

You may be one of those tourists or locals who wish to spot the majestic and huge creatures of the sea. Approximately, 20 miles from the Alaskan coast, different kinds of whales come out to play and feed.

It cannot be denied that it is a very thrilling experience to see them in their natural habitat. According to those who experienced it, it was an experience they will never forget. Whether or not the whales will come to play during their trip, no one can really control this. However, it is still possible for their whale watching tours in Alaska to be enjoyable.

Regardless if you have the tendency to get sea sick or not, it is best that you take medication. Since the Alaskan coast can get very rough, even seasoned sea-goers can even get sick very badly too. Prior to your scheduled trip, it is best that you take one several hours earlier and bring some with you. The trips basically last for 3 to 4 hours and it would not be pleasant at all if you get sick.

Make sure that you bring several drinks and snacks. You have to eat regularly since this will help you feel better. You no longer have to purchase snacks and wait in long lines, so you will not miss sightings. You have to be there 30 to 45 minutes early especially if you wish to score good seats. Do not forget, such tours can certainly be crowded, so you have to score great seats for viewing and comfort. The most excellent areas include the top deck and the area in front.

How high the seas are as well as if there is fog are things one has to check before going. If the water is five to ten feet high, there is a possibility for the trip to be really rough. When there is too much fog, it might be difficult for everyone to catch a glimpse of the whales. When this happens, it is better for him or her to reschedule his or her trip.

It is advisable for them to dress warm. At first, it may seem humid on shore, but they should remember that the temperature can be as low as forty degrees especially when they are out to sea. They will feel even colder because of the chilly wind from a fast moving boat. They will realize later on that it is best to dress warm.

Furthermore, you have to bring a few sweatshirts, gloves, winter hats, a windbreaker and one jacket. As expected, scarf is a requirement. As expected, you have to be equipped with binoculars, camera and video camera. Make certain that you capture seals, porpoises, lighthouses, puffins and so on.

Last, but not the least, they should choose a company that offers another trip in case there are no sightings. It cannot be denied that there are no guarantees especially that they are dealing with Mother Nature. Even if they may not see whales, the experience can still be fun and relaxing considering the scenery they will get to see.
