Tips For A Great Whale Watching Experience

By Claudine Hodges

There is a reason why whale watching requires preparation. It is not like any other form of relaxation where you get what you want the instant you decide to do it. Unlike reading a book, or tending you garden, this activity requires many consideration due to the fact that you need to be outside. Probably outside the city.

The more people that comes with you on the trip, the more preparation you need. Your decision on this is highly dependent on what you need. Juneau Alaska whale watching for instance will be a good place to start if you are looking for places to consider on this kind of activity. Below is a list of top considerations you may want to include on your checklist.

First, consider the location. Not all seas and ocean are frequently visited by whales. There are some areas that are best known for the activity and some which are not. Be sure to do prior research as to the best location to ensure that you will see what you come for.

Second, pack up some foods. This could range from snacks to lunch or picnic type of foods. Your choice of foods to pack should be dependent on the time of your watching. If it is early morning, then a pack of snacks will do. If you expect to watch until late afternoon, then perhaps a packed lunch is a great choice.

Third, is the condition of the weather. Whales may not have any problems about the weather and they will most likely show up regardless of its condition. However, your safety is a primary consideration. Bad weather might not be worth the risk. Be sure to check beforehand the weather status. Besides, a fine weather might be a better choice in terms of capturing great photos.

Four is your cameras. You could not miss this great opportunity to make memories. Have your camcorders and phones ready the night before by charging them up. Bring spare ones if you have to. You might not get a second shot on this one so make sure you have with you a good camera capable of capturing swift movements.

Fifth, is the type of clothing. Same as how you prepare for a wedding celebration or a hiking trip, choosing the right clothing for this activity is a must. A typical windy day may mean colder atmosphere in the seas, so make sure you bring a sweater or a blanket with you. Likewise, a fair day may mean hotter temperature on sea. Wearing a hat may be of help.

Sixth is the unpredictable outcome. Unlike aquariums where you get to be entertained by the tricks that trainers do with dolphins, this activity is more plain. You watch whale. You cannot dictate when they should show up for you to take their photos. Recommended places offer greater possibility of you seeing what you came for. But do not get too hurt if you do not.

Gear up for a great experience with these wonderful sea creatures. Get the best of what you deserve by preparing in advance. Make a checklist and be sure you got everything covered.
